New public procurement directives published in Offical Journal of the EU

The new Public Procurement Directives have been published on 28 March 2014 in the Official Journal of the European Union.

This is the final step of a long process of modernisation of the directives 2004/17/EC and 2004/18/EC. The updated directives (respectively 2014/25/EC and 2014/24/EC) will provide more possibilities and flexibility for public procurers to include innovation in their procurement processes. This will be possible through the use of new mechanisms, such as the ‘Innovation Partnerships’.

It is an important milestone for the P4ITS consortium, which has already been discussing extensively on the content of the new directives.
